Rue de Pouly, france

This beautiful little detached granite and slate, one up one down cottage is located right in the town of Huelgoat. The property can accommodate up to four adults comfortably and is fully equipped with a wood burning stove. The beauty of this property is the fact that it is a few minutes walk to all the facilities Huelgoat has to offer.

The Locality

Huelgoat is a very pretty little town set beside a lake and surrounded by fascinating boulder-strewn forests. Carhaix-Plouger is a larger town with some beautiful mediavel buildings, a full range of shops and amenities and a fantastic music festival www.vieillescharrues.asso.fr/festival/index.php in July which has featured some very big name bands like Deep Purple, The Kaiser Chiefs, Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand and The Cure. The sea is about 45 minutes drive west or north or a little longer South with unspoilt beaches and pretty towns and villages in abundance in all directions. The area is close to the Monts de Aree national Park with is a wild and windswept moorland area. The whole region is great for indulging in all sorts of outdoor activites- mountain biking, hiking, parascending, sand yachting, canoeing and many others. Roscoff (5-6 hours from Plymouth with www.BrittanyFerries.co.uk) is one hours drive, quicker if it's quiet on the roads (which it often is!) and its about the same distance to the airport at Brest. www.flybe.co.uk flies from several UK airports to the airport at Brest including Exeter (35 minutes). Other ferries serve routes such as Portsmouth to Caen including the competitively priced www.ldlines.co.uk.

Huelgoat Town

Huelgoat has an array of restaurants, particularly recommended are La Chouette Blue with its terrace overlooking the lake and often with live entertainment in the bar and the Hotel Du Lac. Numerous bars provide hospitality, all with a friendly reception for tourists and a good selection, of beers wines and cider. There are two supermarkets including an Intermarche on the road out of Huelgoat in the direction of Berrien.

There are some fantastic beauty spots amongst the trees, boulders and the river Argent. You can see ancient mineworkings, take in the tranquillity of the Mare aux Sangliers (pool of the wild boar) and marvel at the view from the Camp de Artus (King Arthurs Castle). It is all too easy to fall in love with Huelgoat and find yourself drawn back time and time again. One minute you can be in a lively modern bar where there are lots of English voices, the next at a more traditional Breton watering hole where the language isn't so familiar and old boys sit round drinking Pastis or Cider from clay cups after a hard afternoon playing boule.
